The Freeholder & Cork Magazine, 4 November 1839
To the Editors of The Freeholder |
---|
I beg to call your attention to that debauched old man, Tom Gardiner, who
has a large family, but nevertheless with his friend Joe Ray resorts to Night
houses—neglecting his most respectable wife and family.
This old rake has his top Coat in pawn for bilks, & has actually had the effrontery to apply to the Sherriff to know how he is to act, but at the time giving a wrong address. This conduct of an old man passed [sic] the meridien of life, every one will acknowledge to be disgraceful and I hope that thro' the instrumentality of your excellent Magazine, Tom will mend his ways, and thus prevent a great deal of misery to his respectable family. I could tell a great deal more about black faces rolling in the gutter
&c. &c. but I will now advise him to pay all just demands on him, redeem
his WHITE top Coat, spend his evenings and Sundays with
his family, or he will hear more from, |
