The Roman Catholic Church has lost one of the most venerated of its prelates, in the death of the Right Rev. Dr. Brown, Bishop of Kilmore, county Cavan. He was a native of the Saxon Barony of Forth, in the county Wexford, which produces more priests than any other district of similar extent in Ireland. In his person he was tall and portly, and is described as, perhaps, one of the finest and most dignified-looking ecclesiastics in the United Kingdom. he had been a warm supporter of the National Schools, which he established in all the parishes of the diocess, till the system of united education was banned by the majority of the prelates. He was in his 88th year.
