The Lanark Era DIED In the County Gaol, (Perth), on Sunday, James Ayres, aged 70 yrs. A native of Ireland, he had been a soldier, seeing service at the siege of Sebastopol during the Crimean War. On coming to Canada he followed his trade as a "Ditcher" running many drains in Drummond and Lanark Twps. He was lodged in the gaol on compassionate grounds. |
